The Origin of the Broad Cove Concert Logo

Picture
"The picture used for the Broad Cove Concert Logo is a gift that I gave to Father Angus Alex MacDonnell the first Christmas after he entered the seminary. It was drawn by Peggy Cameron of Lower South River, Antigonish Co. In the spring of 1972, Father Angus Alex and I began a step-dancing class in the Antigonish area. It was only fitting then, that this picture should have dancing as its central theme. The violin and bow represent music, the shoes represent the dancing, the "Drambuie" was the personal choice of drink of Bonnie Prince Charile. At that time, Lord of the Dance was very popular so we borrowed two lines from the song. "Dance, Dance, Wherever You May Be," appears across the top of the picture and across the botton, "For You Are the Lord of the Dance...Sez Me!" Which needs no further explanation. Father Angus Alex describes it best in his response to the gift, "you have certainly captured the essence of a good ceilidh. It is interesting to note also that on the day of Father MacDonnell's funeral his friend, James MacPherson, (organist and choirmaster at St. Ninian's Cathedral) sang Lord of the Dance at a tempo befitting the solemn occassion. Needless to say there was not a dry eye in the church."
